My Sister's House Donation
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. However, domestic violence impacts all of us 365 days a year.
In support of My Sister’s House, a local organization that provides support services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Nash and Edgecombe counties, RMAC donated $200 and contributed toiletry items in 50 purses and backpacks for men and women directly impacted by incidents of domestic violence.
A few facts …
•According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families.
•Survivors of domestic violence face high rates of depression, sleep disturbances, anxiety, flashbacks, and other emotional distress.
•Domestic violence costs more than $37 billion a year in law enforcement involvement, legal work, medical and mental health treatment, and lost productivity at companies.
