International Day of the Girl Child 2024 Theme: Girls' Vision for the Future

Every year on October 11th, the day is celebrated to empower women and amplify their voices. International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. Globally, nearly 1 in 5 girls are still not completing lower-secondary school and nearly 4 in 10 girls are not completing upper-secondary school. Today's generation of girls is disproportionately affected by global crises of climate, conflict, poverty and pushback on hard won gains for human rights and gender equality.
