Welcome from our President
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to our official chapter website. I am June C. Kearney, and I am honored to be elected the 31st President of the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter (RMAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Our membership stands at more than 150 college educated women committed to service, scholarship, and social action. We serve and support Edgecombe and Nash Counties with a collective strength, rooted in the Christian principles which we are founded on and which we endeavor to live every day.
In line with our Grand Chapter, we are committed to affecting change and serving our community through our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
Economic Development
Educational Development
International Awareness and Involvement
Physical and Mental Health
Political Awareness and Involvement

As an international organization with a global and local impact, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 13, 1913, by 22 young women studying at Howard University in Washington, DC. Our sisterhood has grown to more than 350,000 members and 1,000 chapter worldwide. The Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter was chartered April 4, 1947, by 21 remarkable women who desired to carry out the mission of our Founders to the citizens of Nashville, Rocky Mount, Tarboro, and its surrounding areas.

Our chapter has a rich history. We are blessed with members who have or currently serve at the national and regional level. The late Jennie D. Taylor served as Regional Director of the Eastern Region from 1954-1958. In 1960, a new region, The South Atlantic Region, was created. The late Edythe Tweedy served as the second Regional Director and Mary Bennett Sutton served as the thirteenth Regional Director of the South Atlantic Region.
